minimalism: culling CDs, DVDs, books and games

How often do you re-read the books you own, or put a CD in the player? If the answer is, like it was for me, "barely ever", then you should clear them out and make some money from it!

(by the way, the websites I refer to here are all UK-based, but I hope you find alternatives for wherever you are!)

CDs
Before sending them all away, I backed up my CDs to a portable hard drive (much more space-efficient!) and copied my faves to my phone. You can shop around on music-buying websites: I used ziffit and musicmagpie for my CDs, but you can compare which gives the best price for you.

DVDs
I also used musicmagpie for my DVDs; you just pack them into a box (I filled the space in the box with rolled up paper so the DVDs didn't rattle around), whack a label on it and take it to the post office.
I kept my remaining DVDs which I really like in one of those DVD wallet divider things, which saves a lot of space.

books
Ziffit also takes most books! I now rely on the library and a few special favorite books I kept.

games
CEX gave the best price for my games, often offering a few quid more than musicmagpie for each game, so it's well worth using! However, musicmagpie did take off my hands an ancient chunky nintendo DS which nobody else would buy.

I'd love to hear from you if you had a clear out and made some money from it! Getting rid of things you dont need or use is such a good feeling. I've make around £40 from mine, and haven't regretted the loss of a single thing, not even stuff bought in the last year.

Go for it!
